One day while
visiting a local jail, Chrissy noticed a 10 year old boy confined
in the adjacent cell. The boy had been detained for 2 days simply
for wandering the streets after midnight! The jailer allowed
her to take the boy to visit the POC children's home. Although
little Jimmy expressed the desire to live in the children's
home, his mother did not agree.
As a consequence
of that experience Chrissy prayed for the Lord to reveal how
she could reach children such as Jimmy, who were stuck in the
cycle of poverty. Remembering the 'Tearfund' statement she read,
"You can give a child a fish and feed him for a day, teach
him to fish and you can feed him for a lifetime.", she
then had a vision for starting a Christian school free of charge
for the local community.
By starting a
Christian school, it gave the opportunity to reach children
from the age of four to eighteen with the gospel whilst also
providing them with the high standard of education that ACE
(Accelerated Christian Education) offers. There
are now over 110 students attending the pre-school, elementary,
and high schools. There are also 13 members of staff headed
by Marivic Perez.
Since the school
began in 1987, many students have since graduated, and have
been given the opportunity to become professionals. Some have
become teachers of POC, one is now a college lecturer, another
is a mechanic, others have gone on to various other professions.
