This was part
of the original vision - to reach out to children in need, especially
to those who were living in the jails with their parent(s).
One day, whilst
ministering in the jail, God spoke to Chrissy saying "Now
is the time to take the children." She tried to reason
that she had no facility and no workers to which He responded,
"Look around you". As she looked around and saw rapists,
paedophiles, murderers, prostitutues, homosexuals, etc. she
realised that no situation could be worse for the children -
no matter how bad the facility. That very day the police escorted
the children to POC and the children's home began.
Over the years
the children's home grew, and divided into 2 seperate homes
- a boys' and a girls'.
The Boys' Home
The
house parents of the boys' home are Pam and Martin Scott. They
are both former school teachers from Wakefield, UK who, after
a short visit to POC, felt called to that ministry. The boys
in the home are from various backgrounds. Some are children
of ex-prisoners, some are children of current inmates (one parent
is even on death row), some are from tribal villages, and others
are children whose parents could not afford to feed them.
The boys' home
facility is owned by POC. It has recently been refurbished to
a high standard, and provides a comfortable and stable environment
for 25 or more children.
The Girls'
Home
Rachel
Hailes (Chrissy's neice) is the acting house parent for the
girls' home. Similarly to Pam and Martin, Rachel came out to
visit, and felt the call of God to join POC. She has a great
love for the Philippino children to the extent that she has
now legally fostered a young boy called Rodnie Daus. The girls
also come from similar backgrounds to the boys.
The girls home
facility, however, is not owned by POC but is merely rented.
It sustained damage from the erruption of the nearby volcano
Mt. Pinatubo. The damage was a result of the enormous weight
of several feet of ash, and the accompanying earth tremours.
What Pinatubo left, the termites got, what the termites left,
the rats and the bats got - leaving the girls' house in a terrible
state of disrepair. The girls, are happy, well-fed, well-clothed,
and well-educated, however, it is now POC's priority to provide
them with a more suitable home.
